Thrive Neurodiversity Champion: what you will learn

A five-hour, CPD certified course for people who want to help build a more neuroinclusive workplace.

Champions are the colleagues people turn to. This course gives them the understanding, language and confidence to support neurodivergent colleagues well and to challenge the barriers that hold people back. It includes the Workplace Awareness course. I'm Peter Larkum, a certified Thrive Neurodiversity Instructor.

Course objectives

  • Build understanding and acceptance of neurodiversity
  • Empower participants to contribute to a more neuroinclusive workplace

Learning outcomes

By the end of the course, you will be able to:

  • Understand the concept of neurodiversity and use key terminology with greater confidence
  • Recognise common neurodivergent differences, including how they may present in the workplace and the strengths people may bring
  • Challenge common myths, stereotypes and assumptions about neurodivergent people
  • Understand that neurodivergence is experienced differently by every individual, and why neurodivergent differences should not be viewed on a simple linear spectrum
  • Develop an understanding of executive functioning and how differences in working memory, attention, organisation and processing can affect everyday working life
  • Explore how previous experiences, including education, can affect confidence, self-esteem and experience of learning and work
  • Understand sensory processing differences, sensory overload, and how the environment can affect communication, processing and performance
  • Recognise the relationship between neurodivergence, workplace experiences, anxiety and mental wellbeing, and explore practical approaches to regulation
  • Develop a greater understanding of communication differences, including how unclear communication and hidden social expectations can create barriers and misunderstandings
  • Recognise that behaviour can be a form of communication and develop a more curious, supportive approach to understanding what may be happening for someone
  • Understand the importance of listening to and supporting people who self-identify as neurodivergent, without making assumptions or attempting to diagnose
  • Recognise the value of reasonable adjustments and inclusive working practices, and identify practical changes that help neurodivergent people thrive
  • Consider what you can personally do to create a more inclusive workplace that focuses on individual strengths, needs and potential
